Designer to Watch: Bernard James
NEW YORK, United States — Brooklyn fine jeweler Bernard James has been on a rather steady trajectory due to his thoughtful and intentional assortment of exquisite and timeless designs. We’ve written about the brand’s collaborative partnership with USM, bringing a jeweler’s sensibility to an industrial design behemoth, but most of all, we’re inspired by how the next generation of fine jewelers is making its mark by building community based on one’s most personal purchase.
Celebrating five years in business, Bernard James announced the drop of his latest capsule — Frame — influenced by one of his earliest designs. To celebrate the major milestone, the close-knit team brought together an eclectic bunch for after-hours shopping to toast and experience the collection IRL. Plus: what better reason to spend a breezy summer evening in the freshly opened backyard space with requisite ivy-covered walls?
The Frame collection plays with the concept of ‘figure-ground’ to deliberately create absence as an homage to the wearer. One’s skin is as a part of the piece as the fine metal itself. Across rings, earrings and bangles, one can customize from nano, micro, midi, and even macro in solid 14k gold or sterling silver. Exclusively available at their Greenpoint flagship and online, the Frame collection offers a special gift to commemorate one’s own personal milestones.
