Introducing Notes On Contentment
NEW YORK, United States — We’re excited to share an ongoing solo exhibition Notes On Contentment by American artist Freddie L. Rankin II. Featuring never-before-seen works developed over a four-year period of meditative practice shaped by societal upheaval, the exhibition considers the pursuit of contentment, its limitations, and its lessons for navigating the inevitable journey of life.
Curated by Oladunni Oladipo, Notes On Contentment explores those themes and more through a series of photographic abstractions and chemigram works. Rankin takes hand-hewn coffee beans and sand particles to intermediate the traditional film development process on photosensitive surfaces to create ‘camera-less’ photographs. The output is both deeply contemplative and a tangible conclusion of the philosophical study Rankin has explored during these past four years of rapid transformation.
Experience Notes On Contentment at All Street Gallery in the East Village (77 East 3rd Street, New York) through July 10.
