South African Brand Rich Mnisi Collaborates with Guild Africa
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Rich Mnisi is a quiet force. Known for his intensely minimal and youth-centric collections, the South African-born designer started his eponymous contemporary label RICH MNISI in 2014. He studied at LISOF - Leaders in the Science of Fashion and garnered colossal industry support as the 2014 recipient of the African Fashion International Young Designer of the Year award. No stranger to far-flung inspirations, Mnisi takes and adapts from the realms of history, language, film, music, art, and nature to build his trans-seasonal collections.
The brand's recent AW2017 campaign video Xingelengele reveals vibrantly hued yet powerful separates perfect to take one from work to play and back again. Shot by Riccardo Simal in Masiphumelele, Cape Town, the film highlights the individual strength of each genderless look in its simplicity, the only movements confined to smoking shafts of color in the background or the rare child running out to play. The duvet coat in robin's egg blue and bright orange bombers are striking against the scrim of local life. With a growing following both domestically and internationally, Mnisi in his understated way is fashioning a foundation for longevity.
That is why it comes as no surprise that RICH MNISI has partnered with Guild Africa, a concept store based in the Silo District in Cape Town, on an exclusive capsule collection spanning home goods, accessories, and even miniature booties. As one of ten selected creators, he was tasked to design a collection of 'collectibles,' so collect a piece now of this limited edition set from South Africa's burgeoning star.
