JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Street style was vibrant yet again this past weekend during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Johannesburg (MBFWJ) held over three days at the luxurious Mall of Africa. This occasion was ultra special as it marked 10 years for MBFWJ under African Fashion International in uplifting local creative talents. Outside of the shows, a warm color palette overtook the ensembles put together by South Africa's dynamic creative class. Amber, burgundy, and honey tones commanded neutral looks replete with coats, turtleneck sweaters, and tiny neck scarves.

Influencer Cassandra Twala opted for an oversized work coat on Day 3 matched with a pair of embroidered green booties and a leopard print scarf. Up close details revealed a miniature box bag in ivory that paired nicely with the rich hue of her shoes. Earlier during the weekend, she kept the neutral theme in an all black dress and strappy heels. Not too far from her gal pal, Lulama and her Day 3 look consisted of a linen set and graphic tee coupled with a pair of bronze loafers. Earlier, she too sported monochrome in a ruffled top and floor-grazing trousers.

Photographer-cum-designer Trevor Stuurman wore a fez from his upcoming collection and a striped jacket over a turtleneck and patterned pants.  Yoliswa Mqoco channeled the amber vibes in her makeup with burnt orange and gold shades framing her face while her sister Nandipha Mqoco paid homage to the reds in a high-waisted pant and peacoat combination. Rapper Nadia Nakai, who later performed at Experience AFI, sported a futuristic visor and technicolor windbreaker as a dress. Stylist Linda Sifumba, also known as The Letter L, donned a coordinating set in light pastels from her own line.

Adding to the significant achievements style-wise during MBFWJ was the recent announcement that African Fashion International Executive Chairperson Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe has been nominated as the inaugural recipient of the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award. The award commemorates the late Franca Sozzani, Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Italia and will be given during the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September.
