2017 Nzassa Mode Festival Abidjan with Mimi Plange
ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast - The 2017 Nzassa Mode Festival held its 2nd annual edition this month. Developed by stylist Ciss St. Moise, Nzassa Mode Festival strikes a strong balance of paying homage to rich Ivorian cultural heritage and showcasing modern interpretations in fashion by African contemporary designers such as Ghanaian artist Mimi Plange.
Sportswear-inspired silk embroidered jumpers meet high-octane pop peplum mini-skirts. Renowned for her polished separates with a twist and standout outerwear, Plange incorporated her signature elements throughout a series of fourteen ensembles. A snow-white bomber with contrasting python trim sleeves lent an athletic edge to a glittering feathered skirt while a tailored evening look adorned with oversized buttons played with proportions in an elegant manner. Easy blouses with voluminous details and dresses decorated with prim white collars gave a sense of informality, but in all the right ways. A favorite yellow overcoat in a day dress silhouette was classic, yet electrifying. Sculpted and intricate beaded gowns closed out her presentation replete with textural virtues. Plange’s knack of creating wearable pieces with distinction is her modus operandi.
