Show Coverage: Tracy Reese Pre-Fall 2017

Tracy Reese's pre-fall 2017 collection felt more like summer with its long loose gowns, bright color palette, and whiffs of bohemian fancy. A mix of sequin and leather two-strap sandals put the 26-look collection in clear warm climate territory.

The collection opens with a cream ruched strapless all-in-one and a relaxed blazer of the same color. The ensuing ensembles range from a light floral handkerchief dress perfect for a hot night in Dakar to a delicate trouser and sleeveless trench cut in so supple a fabric you might want to nap in them. A bit of corsetry in a canvas day dress contrasts a tiered parachute top in pamplemousse, carrot, and tangerine. It perhaps would have been more impactful to present a more concentrated palette from which to hand cut lace blouses and athletic track pants. The pieces in totality also strike a more casual tone, which can work when dressing a woman from brunch to bedtime, but leaves less options for the professional looking to make a statement.

Nevertheless, true to Reese's previous collections, the energy is independent and self-assured, and there are surely enough pieces to fill former First Lady Michelle Obama's post-White House wardrobe, especially the lace, bias-cut paneled dress in a muted bronze that would look divine against Obama's complexion and the asymmetric hemmed shift dress in a black-and-white dizzying pattern.
