Nigerian Retailer DressMeOutlet to host President Buhari

LAGOS, Nigeria - This weekend, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria will attend DressMeOutlet's Cocktails and Dresses event at the Intercontinental Hotel.

With over 2,000 attendees, Cocktails and Dresses is one of the largest fashion events organized by DressMeOutlet, a major e-retailer for high-quality fashion, health and beauty, and home goods. Over 60% of the 10,000+ products on their site are manufactured within Africa.

DressMeOutlet CEO Olatorera Oniru remarked to Vanguard NGR that "Cocktails and Dresses champions the revolution of the fashion and beauty industries in Nigeria and Africa." Her goal: to demonstrate the "commercial potential and economic benefits of the fashion and beauty industries in Africa." Oniru was recently named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 Most Promising Young Entrepreneurs in Africa.

President Buhari's presence at the event may be a positive indicator of the Nigerian government's focus on investment in the fashion industry. Greater attention from the government is needed to partner with regional organizations to help promote coordination of the Nigerian fashion industry and training of young Nigerian designers. Government support can dedicate funding to building manufacturing resources to further the sustainability and success of Nigerian designers in the global economy. We'll be watching closely over the coming months to understand the impact of his attendance.
